Welcome back!-ish.

New assignment:

ACCESSORY INTERACTION

This assignment begins with gathering reference. Find 3 items (accessories, products, or devices) in magazines, catalogs, or books that you can extract and use as a foundation/starting point for your illustrations. You will need to use high-res scans of these items so your final will print well. Super well.
Pick your accessories/items carefully. Thepoint of the assignemt is to experiment with the juxtaposition of photographic imagery and your illustration style. You may affect the original image in some way to produce a result that marries the components well (ie: change from color to b&w, or digitally affect the graphic quality of the image), but don't re-design or draw into too much. Rather, focus most of your attention on the added figures/decorative aspects that you bring to the piece. These added componenets hsould work to feature the item and not distract from it or overshadow it too much.
You will be creating three separate pieces that work together as a series. Either do all 3 at 8 1/2"x11" or do one at 8 1/2" x 11" and the othres as a 2page spread at 17"x11".
Consider not only the theme, mood, or identity generally associated with your chosen items, but also a possible narrative or decorative theme not previously considered by the company that produces the product, which would appeal to their target consumer base. Additional things to think about: Page layout, color, possible inclusion of logos/product name.

Laura Laine is one of my favorite illustrator and I've been waiting for this assignment so I can show her works to you all!
